Will Conway's Five Things.

Written by Lazy Gramophone on Tuesday the 26th of February 2013

Five Things is a series of short journal posts introducing each of the writers and artists involved in our up-coming Time project.

Since the project's inception, the idea has been to create an environment where independent writers and artists could come together in order to share their work. The result of this endeavour is a collection of stories, images and poems based around the theme of time, its pages placing particular focus upon the relationship between words and pictures. By sharing in this way we hope to inspire each other as well as those around us, to draw a diverse audience and so help to illuminate the work of alternative artists and writers everywhere.

Will lives and writes in London. He has just had a shower and is thinking about cutting his hair. He has a collection of short stories called Tastes of Ink published by Lazy Gramophone and is always up to something.

Five Things that have Inspired my Writing.

I've been asked to list five influences on my writing which I always find hard because often influences are negative, a car crash, a shitty advert, watching someone do something terribly. I've decided not to list works of art I admire and tried to be honest (if you're really interested I mention a few here: http://www.lazygramophone.com/journal/an-interview-with-will-conway ).

Thing One - When I'm at someone's house and they're watching the television I get lots of ideas. Mainly morbid and violent ones. Seeing and hearing the absolute pillocks that we as a society value at the moment I can't help but be incensed into writing something, or punching someone, or writing something about punching someone.

Thing Two - I find that waking up from dreaming about the end of the world inspires me a lot. Lots of my story ideas are just ripped straight out of a dream.

Thing Three - I used to get a lot of material from arguments with girls.

Thing Four - These days small sections of conversations I overhear on the bus can send me off on some odyssey, from the mundane to the ridiculous. I enjoy when the rug of context is pulled from under things sometimes.

Thing Five -I also find watching somebody who doesn't have a clue what they're doing is a kind of call to arms. Equally those mad, free characters you meet out and about every once in a while always seem like too good an opportunity to waste.
